    • Dade Battlefield Historic State Park

    Join park staff, volunteers, period reenactors and guests as we commemorate the 189th Anniversary of Dade’s Battle of 1835. Speakers will recall the history and sacrifices made on all sides in the Second Seminole War, which began with the December 28, 1835 clash that occurred at what is now Dade Battlefield Historic State Park, a National Historic Landmark. The ceremony will culminate with a wreath laying at the breastworks in front of the park’s Visitor Center. Free entry to the park for the ceremony.

    Please note that this is NOT the reenactment of Dade’s Battle, which will take place in the park January 4-5, 2025.

    Start the New Year the healthy way by joining a park ranger on an interpretive hike along the park’s trails. Included in your park entry fee of $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and insect repellent.

    Register

    Commemorating the 189th Anniversary of Dade's Battle of 1835, the beginning of the Second Seminole War. Reenactment includes period soldier, Seminole and civilian camps, period vendor trade fair, historic arts and crafts demonstrations and full-scale cannon firing plus 19th century games and activities for children. Cost is $3/parking and $5 per person entrance fee. 5 and under are free.


    REENACTORS PLEASE NOTE: Reenactors do not pay to register to participate in the event. There is no need for reenactors to use the "Register" button on this event to pay for the event. Please find the registration form at https://www.dadebattlefield.com/Reenactor

    Traditional pine needle basketry is taught by Dade’s experienced volunteers. All materials are provided to make a long-leaf pine needle basket. Cost is park entry at $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass plus $5/person activity fee.     Get back to nature with your students at Dade Battlefield Historic State Park each month in an immersive educational experience utilizing both indoor and outdoor activities teaching nature’s mysteries in a fun and engaging way!  This month we will use curricula from Project Learning Tree curriculum created by the Sustainable Forestry Initiative. Cost is free for this educational event.

    Participants may enter quilts - $5 display fee for each item, up to 5 items.  Call for applications.  Quilt show will also include quilting demonstrations and vendors, button art, natural fiber art, and concession stand.  Cost is $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass.

    Fall bird migrants have moved into Dade for their wintering grounds. Bring binoculars or borrow some from the park to see these avian visitors as well as our resident birds. Cost is $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass. Bring a hat, sunscreen, water and insect repellent.

    Join expert volunteers as we learn how to imprint designs from recycled silk ties onto white silk scarves.   All materials are provided.     Join us as we present our history through a historical fashion show. Live models will be displaying historical fashions from the late 1700’s – 1960’s with commentary by our master of ceremonies.  The fashion show will be held outside with camp chairs recommended.  Cost is $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass.

    The Little House on the Prairie books comes alive in this Florida version of Laura Ingalls Wilder’s book series.  Participants will experience what life was like on the prairie tailored to our own Florida prairie.  The event will include narration from the books, hands-on demonstrations and participation with period demonstrators.  Cost is $3/vehicle or Florida State Parks Annual Pass.

    Wild foods abound at Dade waiting for educated visitors to sample with expert park staff and volunteers as their guides.  We will forage for wild foods on the park grounds, create some wild food dishes and sample!  Cost is $3/vehicle or Annual Florida State Parks Pass plus $5/person, 12 and under free.
